How to: Replace the computer cover.
Solution:
Test all components to make sure the computer works properly. Cover all empty slots with slot covers. Turn off the computer and all components and remove all cables and cords. Replace the computer cover and screw in all the screws along the top and side edges of the computer cover.
WARNING: DO NOT touch or probe with a tool inside the computer while the computer is on. An electrical shock could occur and components could sustain damage.
1) Test the computer and all components for proper operation before replacing the cover:
2) Make sure all adapter cards are properly seated and secured in place with screws, and all empty slots are covered with slot covers.
CAUTION: Cards can work their way loose if they are not secured with screws, causing components to not function properly.
CAUTION: Missing slot covers can cause dust to get inside the computer, causing components not to work properly. Also airflow patterns become distorted, causing chips and components to overheat.
3) Slowly slide the computer cover back into place.
CAUTION: Watch carefully and make sure cables and cords do not get caught and damaged on the cover.
4) Replace all the screws along the top and sides of the computer cover.
5) Carefully place all the cables back into the appropriate connectors on the back of the computer.
CAUTION: DO NOT force or bend connectors or pins.
6) Plug the power cords back into the electrical outlets.
7) Turn on the computer and its components one at a time.
8) Retest to make sure the computer and all its components are working properly.
